at JHU is announcing the to support pre-dissertation research in Latin America. The grant of $5000 is awarded on a competitive basis. The competition is open to all doctoral students from the Hopkins Homewood Campus whose dissertation research requires travel to and research in Latin America. Although ABD students may apply, priority will be given to pre-dissertation research that will help students with their field research and to develop and dissertation proposals. Applications are judged on the basis of the quality of the proposal submitted to the program, the student's academic standing, and the relationship of the proposed research to the student's long term academic and professional goals. Upon his/her return from Latin America, the awardee is required to submit a research and expense report, and to offer a public lecture on his/her research. 1) A completed application form 2) A proposal up to 3000 words. This proposal should provide information on: - A detailed methodology and plan of research
- The relationship of the project to the student's doctoral dissertation goals
- A detailed budget for the project (estimated airfare, per diems, and other research expenses)
3) Two letters of support from Hopkins faculty members who are familiar with the student's project or academic work. 4) One copy of the student's transcript. Applicants should submit two hardcopies of the whole application packet and also include a description of any previous research and travel experience in Latin America, or any initial contacts they have already made with institutions or researchers in the country. (NB: Prior experience and contacts are not required for application.) Applications must be received at the PLAS office at Macaulay Hall 404 no later than Friday, February 5, 2010 at 4pm |
