William Zitzmann Pre-Dissertation Field Research Grant The Program in Latin American Studies (PLAS) at JHU is announcing the William Zitzmann Pre-Dissertation Field Research Grant to support pre-dissertation research in Latin America. The grant of $5000 is awarded on a competitive basis. The competition is open to all doctoral students from the Hopkins Homewood Campus whose dissertation research requires travel to and research in Latin America. Although ABD students may apply, priority will be given to pre-dissertation research that will help students with their field research and to develop and dissertation proposals. Applications are judged on the basis of the quality of the proposal submitted to the program, the student's academic standing, and the relationship of the proposed research to the student's long term academic and professional goals. Upon his/her return from Latin America, the awardee is required to submit a research and expense report, and to offer a public lecture on his/her research. The William Zitzmann Pre- Dissertation Field Research Grant for Latin America application consist of: 1) A completed application form 2) A proposal up to 3000 words. This proposal should provide information on:
3) Two letters of support from Hopkins faculty members who are familiar with the student's project or academic work. 4) One copy of the student's transcript. Applicants should submit two hardcopies of the whole application packet and also include a description of any previous research and travel experience in Latin America, or any initial contacts they have already made with institutions or researchers in the country. (NB: Prior experience and contacts are not required for application.)
