Research Interests: I am currently interested in how legal and medical institutions intersect to affect lives of patients who must negotiate both. My fieldwork is here in Baltimore and looks at sexual assault victims as they enter the emergency room as both crime victims and patients, following the difficult dance between the legal and therapeutic, paying particular attention to what this reveals about 1) the nature of institutions themselves, 2) the possibilities and choices enabled by particular visual technologies, and 3) how sexual assault is conceived of and evolves as a case for care and intervention. |
